We’re getting down to the wire! Do you have all of your Christmas shopping done? All the presents wrapped? All the trees trimmed? I’ve got a few things left to sew, as well as a few projects I can leave until after Christmas since we won’t see family until later in December and January.
I know. I’m putting it off. That’s how I roll. Which is why this tutorial is so tardy! December got away from me! But no worries! We have coupon codes and a giveaway and a tutorial for a project that is really seasonless! I even have one planned for Valentine’s Day already!
Before I get much further, though, I want to mention my amazing sponsors! They were so generous to provide the fabric and trims for this project AND they have a treat or two for my awesome readers!
- Ink & Arrow Fabrics sent me yardage of their line, Naughty or Nice, which is available in quilt shops now! I’m a sucker for Christmas lights and decorations, so this was right up my alley. At the end of this post, you can enter to win a fat quarter bundle of these fun, Christmassy prints. They’ve also thrown in some of my favorite Pixie Dots, too!
- provided the crochet edge bias tape for my pennant and skirt, and they are offering my readers a coupon code, good for 20% off their sweet shop! This includes their new line of ruffly goodness! The code is IZZYNIVY20 and it expires 12/31/16.
- Little Red Cottage donated the trims and buttons for my projects! Another coupon code for you, IZZYNIVY is now active for 20% off all purchases, no limits, no minimums, and is good until 01/31/2017! You can shop Michelle’s fun trims or .
Let’s bring on the CUTE!
The first is our , and instead of hemming the two layers, I’ve added the crochet edge bias tape to it. Easy peasy! I also added some brick red Cluny lace to the seam where the waistband meets the skirt. The skirt features my favorite navy blue print from Naughty or Nice! Paired with the Bella Bubble top by Greenstyle Creations and knit from The Purple Seamstress, this makes for a fun and spunky Christmas party outfit!
Those little houses and those tiny lights! I’m smitten! And the Cluny lace just puts it over the top.
Here is the pennant I made with more of the fabric and trims. I love how it turned out!
I have always loved the word Noel, which is borrowed from the French, and means a Christmas song, or even simply Christmas. It always made Christmas seem more special. not that it needed it…hello, Christ’s birth! Anyway, my favorite Christmas song of late is . In case you were wondering, this is exactly what I sound like when I sing in my van or in the shower . . . in some alternate world, I’m sure. Anyway, I thought it was the perfect word to showcase in my pennant project.
I really love this banner, and you can find the tutorial .

My favorite Christmas memory was the year our family was in charge of collecting and sorting shoeboxes of gifts for a children’s home in Mexico. We were so busy with that, my mom had no time to do shopping for us, so all our gifts were I.O.U.s stuck in envelopes. We were also so busy we didn’t have time to decorate or buy a tree. One evening while my parents were out, my sisters and I decorated a fake tree that sat in our living room. Simple but fun and lots of laughter.
What a great memory, Jona!
Congrats, Jona! Random.org has selected you as the winner! Heads up for an email from me!
My favourite Christmas tradition is driving around, looking at the Christmas lights. We bundle the kids up in their Christmas jammies and blankets, sip on hot chocolate, and listen to Christmas carols on the radio as we tour the neighbourhood.
We have a similar tradition, Renée! One of the nearby towns lights up their town square and has it coordinated to music and everything! It was warm enough last night to get out of the car and walk around!
My favourite Christmas memory is announcing we were expecting our second bub. We told my family on Christmas Eve & it was magical.
I’ll bet that was special!
As a kid my favorite Christmas was when I opened my American Girl Doll, Samantha. As an adult I love making Christmas magical for my kids. 🙂 rachel.marie.furlong at gmail
My most favorite Christmas memory is midnight mass at church. I can’t wait until my girls are hold enough to resume the tradition. kari.steiger79 at gmail
I love Christmas Eve services, for sure! The one we had this year was complete with a Christmas bat, swooping through the sanctuary! Ack!
My best Christmas memory would be having my son. His birthday is the 23rd of December and although we were still in hospital for his first Christmas, it is a great memory. Sharon.archer at hotmail.com
What a great Christmas present, Sharon!
This may get long. My favorite Christmas memory occurred when I was 8. My father had taken a new teaching position, and we had moved. Mother sat me down one day to explain that my 5 yr. old cousin was getting a bike for Christmas, but that they could not afford to get me one. She wanted to prepare me so that I wasn’t disappointed. Christmas was always at my Grandparents house in southern IL. My aunt, uncle, and cousins always drove up from Mobile, AL, so our celebration was like a week long slumber party. On Christmas eve after we had opened our gifts, I was told to take my cousin into the kitchen. I was all excited for him because the time had come for him to get his bike, and I was in on the secret. But when we were called back into the living room, there were two bikes — one for each of us. Our grandparents had heard that I wasn’t getting a bike so they bought us both bikes. I am now 74 years old, and that is still a very vivid memory.
That is such a sweet memory, Nancy! Thank you for stopping by and sharing it!
