I’ve only been to the ocean a few times in my life. One time I went on a mission trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina, another time on a family vacation to Gulf Shores, Alabama, and then most memorably, on my honeymoon, in San Francisco, California. There’s nothing like the sand beneath your feet (if you can keep it from migrating to other places), the briny breezes, and the amazing view.

By the Sea is a new line from Riley Blake designer Dani Mogstad. Dani is a new-to-me designer, and I love all that is RBD! I’m so excited to share a project with her fabric!

Today I have a super fun version of our Such a Sweet Pea skirt. There were so many prints I wanted to use, and I love that I get a little extra mileage on this skirt by using a second fabric for the back ruffles.

This skirt is so fun for any little girl. They can’t help but whirl and twirl with all of those ruffles!

See what I mean?

I paired it with a modified version of the Brigitte Bow Top and Dress from LilyGiggle and a sailboat applique from our Abbie Applique paper pattern. The Brigitte top has an ever-so-slight boat neck and it became the perfect canvas for more fabric fun! I even picked up the waves from the sailboat print with a line of ric rac! I enlarged the applique on my scanner and made it 50% bigger so I could show more of these great prints!

The closest body of water we have here is the Ohio River, and while the breezes that blow are far more pungent and far less enjoyable than the ocean, it does give us an amazing place to visit and enjoy being outside. Even in February.

Thanks for joining me for our walk by the sea today! Below you’ll find the fabrics I used, and I’ll recap the patterns as well.
